Case 39. Thrombophilia

چکیده
● Mutations in several different genes are associated with an increased risk for venous thrombosis (VT). ● The lifetime risk for VT associated with the most common mutations is modest. For example, the lifetime risk for VT associated with factor V Leiden, a gene variant present in 5% of individuals of European descent, is estimated to be about 12% to 20%. ● However, inheritance of two copies of the factor V Leiden mutation, or the factor V Leiden mutation and a mutation in a second gene associated with VT, confers a high lifetime risk for VT.

متن کاملParoxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria presenting as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis: a case report
Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare type of acquired hemolytic anemia that is frequently associated with thrombophilia. It may rarely present with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, which manifests clinically with signs of raised intracranial pressure and requires lifelong anticoagulation therapy. One such rare presentation was seen in a 28 years old male who had history of recur...
متن کاملThrombophilia and the risk for hemodialysis vascular access thrombosis.
Vascular access thrombosis is the most common and costly complication in hemodialysis patients. The role of thrombophilia in access thrombosis is not established. A case-control study was conducted of 419 hemodialysis patients to determine whether thrombophilia was associated with arteriovenous fistula or graft thrombosis. Participants were enrolled from three in-center and five satellite dialy...
متن کاملThrombophilia, Anticoagulant Therapy, and Pregnancy Outcome in Women with Poor Obstetric History
Background: The role of anticoagulant medications in preventing placental mediated pregnancy complications in patients with and without thrombophilia has not been investigated well. One underlying cause is associated with adverse effects of anticoagulants in pregnancy including teratogenicity, complexities in dosing and management of anticoagulants during pregnancy and labor. We aimed to assess...
متن کاملRecurrent Pregnancy Loss in a Subject with Heterozygote Factor V Leiden Mutation; a Case Report
Recurrent pregnancy loss is usually defined as the loss of two or more consecutive pregnancies before 20 weeks of gestation, which occurs in approximately 5% of reproductive-aged women. It has been suggested that women with thrombophilia have an increased risk of pregnancy loss and other adverse pregnancy outcomes. Thrombophilia is an important predisposition to blood clot formation and is cons...
